I can already smell the fried dough and hear the rock music!

Next weekend, September 6th, I’ll be at the 32nd Annual Hang Around Victor Day Festival.  In case you haven’t been before, this event sprawls across downtown Victor in a full-day festival that starts at 9:00 a.m. with the YMCA’s 5K race/walk, features a Battle of Rock Bands, a Pet Parade, lots of entertainment, food, crafts, cars and community groups and ends at 9:00 p.m. with the Victor Fest fireworks display and music.

I can’t wait for the Robert M. Malley Battle of the Bands.  This year, four student rock groups, Broken D, Out of Luck, The Racketeers and TCI, will “battle each other” through music for first place.   Audience members who are American Idol fans will love the fact that they can text message in their vote for their favorite band. This great event was started last year by the late Chamber President, Robert M. Malley.  Rob was an avid musician who wrote his first song on a plastic guitar at the age of four.  He started the “Battle” to help students become rock stars for a day and encourage a passion for music.

Those who have attended in prior years will be surprised by the festival’s growth. The number of Exhibitors has skyrocketed from under 90 last year to over 137 crafters, food vendors and community organizations all celebrating Victor.  A second stage has been added, with entertainment by the band Squirrels in Traffic  as well as performances by magicians and martial artists.

Hey even your pets are welcome and can enter their own competition, a Pet Parade, at 12:45, sponsored by Storybook Veterinary Hospital!

I hope to see you there!

P.S. If you’re visiting from out of town, try out the brand new Best Western Inn & Suites on route 96 in Victor.
