Ever heard of a Cigar Box Guitar?

I hadn’t before, but now I’m fascinated, because the historic Cigar Box Guitar will be in the spotlight at this year’s Fall into Canandaigua Festival, taking place in Downtown Canandaigua on October 4th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Just to give you an idea of what a cigar box guitar might sound like, here’s an example of Grammy Award Winner Marcy Marxer playing boogie music on a cigar box guitar, posted on youtube by “CommunityMusic”:

Although Marcy won’t be at Fall into Canandaigua, Festival-goers will have a chance to hear a great concert on the cigar box guitars, and they can also visit the National Cigar Box Guitar Museum, on display at All Things Art (65 S. Main Street).   Children can try their hands at making their own version of one at the Kids Korridor and adults can craft one at All Things Arts’ 2:00 workshop.
