Finger Lakes Ice Wine lovers, Rejoice!  Casa Larga Vineyards is hosting the inaugural New York Ice Wine Festival, taking place at Casa Larga throughout February.  This event is not only the first in the region, but also the first of its kind in the country!

Perfect conditions for ice wines

A great climate for ice wines

The climate in the Finger Lakes region provides the perfect conditions for ice wines.  Riesling, Vidal Blanc and Cab Franc grapes are allowed to hang on the vines to freeze developing concentrated sugars and flavors.  When the temperature outdoors is between 15 and 20 degrees, they’re then harvested by hand at night so the sun won’t warm the grapes.  The wine that’s produced from these grapes is a lucious sweet dessert wine.  The whites often have notes of pear, apricot, raisin, honey and caramel and the reds “sing” with plum, cherry and berry jam notes.

This year, Casa Larga is teaming up with Heron Hill Winery, Hunt Country Vineyards and Sheldrake Point Vineyard to showcase the exceptional ice wines of this region in the 1stAnnual Ice Wine Festival, beginning on February 8th.
