If you’re climbing the walls waiting for winter to end, then the perfect place for you is Rock Ventures in Rochester, NY!
The 18,000 square foot facility is owned by Kent Winchester and his dog Kobe. Kent is a former professor at RIT who followed his own leadership training advice of “taking risks” and went for his dream of building a world class climbing facility.
People who frequent Rock Ventures go for the fun, the exercise and the chance to climb to great heights in an environment graded for the beginner to the advanced climber.
If you haven’t climbed before, you’ll begin with an Introductory Course that teaches you 10 climbing skills, belay training and that recommends improvement drills. You’ll receive an additional admission good for up to 2 months. The fee for this class is $35 or $45 for the Deluxe version, which includes two admissions. The class includes helmet, shoes and all safety equipment.
From there, you can simply go climb a wall or you can sign up for additional courses and classes.
Groups of all ages enjoy the Low and High Ropes obstacle course. On the High Course you’ll enjoy the Vertical Playpen, the Giant’s Ladder, the Pirate’s Crossing and more. The low elements focus on communication, cooperation and problem solving and are instrumental in the corporate team building exercises the facility is known for. As part of the same team building and corporate communication services Rock Ventures, also offers courses on Strategic Planning, Mission Statements, DISC Personal Profiles and other corporate and business courses.
Kids love having birthday parties at Rock Ventures. Hey, wouldn’t you like to have the kids climbing the walls rather than Mom? After 90 minutes of climbing, the kids gather on the raised center island for pizza, drinks and goody bags. There is also a special program for Scout Troops seeking their climbing badges.
