If you know any Pre-K through 12th Grade New York State teachers who are doing the “Happy Dance” to celebrate the upcoming winter recess break, add to their joy by telling them about a special promotion welcoming educators.
From February 18 through 27 the city of Ithaca, NY presents Winter Recess Teacher Week. This annual community-wide event is now in its fifth year as Ithaca celebrates education by throwing open its doors to teachers, offering specials on lodging (22 different hotels, inns and B&Bs are participating), wine and dine deals (more than 75 participating restaurants and wineries) and shopping, attraction and activity specials that include everything from spas and yoga to skiing and museum visits (I gave up counting when I hit 80 and the end wasn’t in sight). CLICK HERE for the complete list of events taking place throughout the week.
This special offer is available to public and private school teachers, school district employees, teachers union retirees and their guests, and registration is FREE! If you will be staying overnight, simply present proper ID (Your school ID badge, proof of teachers union membership, proof of teachers union retiree status, or a letter from your principal or school board on official stationery) at your participating hotel. If you are visiting for the day or are a local teacher, present your ID to the Ithaca/Tompkins Convention & Visitors Bureau at 904 E. Shore Drive or the Downtown Visitors Center at 171 E. State St., Center Ithaca, The Commons. There, each family or traveling group will receive a welcome package that includes one Winter Recess Program and one “VIT” (Very Important Teacher) Pass to take advantage of Ithaca’s many special offers.
