When I recently  posted a 4th birthday party photo to facebook in celebration of my “not 4th” birthday, a friend asked if the present I was opening was a toy train.  When I looked closely at the photo, memories of this favorite but forgotten gift flooded my thoughts. Perhaps that first toy train is the reason I enjoy train travel and model train exhibits so much today.

If you’re a train buff or you simply want a fun trip with the family, you’ll be delighted to know that the Edgerton Community Center is opening its historic model railroad train room on the last Saturday of each month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during 2011.  The dates that it will be open include January 29, February 26, March 26, April 30, May 28, June 25, July 30, August 27, September 24, October 29, November 26, December 31. This model train layout, which offers a four season view of Rochester and its environs circa 1950, is a fun adventure for the entire family.  There is no fee to view the exhibit, but donations are appreciated.  The Edgerton Community Center is located at 41 Backus Street in Rochester.
